Mismatched tiles in Porto

I stumbled upon these twin doors in my hometown Porto, Portugal.

Porto is famous for its tiles, and it’s common to see a few tiles which were replaced in a given building. Sometimes the owners of the house use tiles of a different pattern to replace the broken ones, perhaps because they don’t think it makes a difference and have some other spare tile lying around. Whatever the reason, this makes for a really cool ‘collage’, and that’s what inspired me to capture in this guache illustration.
